"PEETER STAS'S MARKS - The first attempt to catalogue Stas's marks was made in 1952 by Squilbeck (II). The earliest Stas marks on a plate that he had found were on the Adoration of the Magi, attributed to Jan Brueghel I (1568-1625), and a Massacre of the Innocents byPieter Brueghel II (1564-1638), dated 1602. Unfortunately the whereabouts of the aforementioned works is not known (II)."

CONDITION REPORTS
Overall appears in good condition. Some dullness to the surface, particularly top right around the Madonna and right hand figure, towards the corner. The edges have some minor loss where once met the frame one assumes. Under UV light there is an area of blackening below the Madonna around the wall area, suggesting re-painting or touching up. Otherwise evidence under UV is minimal. The reverse of the copper plate has several areas of scratching to the oxidisation and marks throughout. See images for further detail.
