We are delighted to offer an original oil on panel by Laurence Stephen Lowry (British 1887-1976) in our sale next week, having been in a local client’s private collection for over 40 years.
Thought to be “Mill Gates”, the oil on panel is a typical Lowry industrial town scene with figures in foreground, signed and dated 1964 lower left and measuring 23.2cm x 24.2 cm. Bearing “Grove Galleries Manchester” label verso and framer's label "J. Davey & Sons Ltd ... 44 Duke Street Liverpool 1 ...", it comes with “Grove Galleries of Manchester” receipt of purchase dated 5th April 1983, the piece having been bought directly from George Aird himself.
